My husband and I were talking about my birthday. I had thought to leave something to the Garden Communicator’s Scholastic Fund in my will. I had told my husband I didn’t need anything, and he suggested a donation now while everyone still knew who I was, and it clicked.
"One of the things I had always said was “pay it ahead” so some young person gets a chance to learn and get started in our organization."
I truly believe in doing this. So, in honor of my 85th birthday and my new title at “Fine Gardening” as “Editor Emeritus”, I am donating $500.00 to the Scholastic Fund. I want to also encourage those of us who are more mature to think about the organization’s future and how this can help us grow and encourage young people to join. I want to thank all of the members who have encouraged me along the way, been my mentors, and friends and now I want to do this for others.
I would also like to thank Maria Zampini for helping me with this donation idea.
Yours,
Stephanie Cohen | “The Perennial Diva”
